We had a pretty big to do list for this year, with our main focus to complete as many major maintenance items as possible in one summer. We completed
Exterior log restoration and new chinking on Main Cabin
Clean, stain and seal the exterior of the Guest Cabin
New screen doors and one new exterior door
Replaced plumbing (fresh water) in Main and Guest Cabins
Kitchen update: Replaced the Wolf Range, new sink/faucet, updated lighting and some new electric work
Partial replacement of the barn roof
Installation of new windows in the Main Cabin
Log Restoration
The project was bid for 3 weeks, but ended taking 13 weeks to complete. It was a long summer of cleaning dust, bugs and sawdust daily from everything. Without chinking everything just blew or crawled right into the cabin. We do have more work next summer: rebuilding the deck (we had to remove a portion to get to the rotten logs) and we plan to extend the eaves on the south side to help keep sun and rain from deteriorating that side of the cabin.
In many of the pictures, it is evident the windows are in need of replacing!
We are glad this project is done as we are now able to maintain the logs to keep it from getting burnt again (first picture) or the chinking from deteriorating. We are finding the cabin is much warmer this winter.
Window Replacement
All 20 windows were replaced in October. It was down to the wire getting this project completed this year! The windows were ordered in May and installed 3 days before snow. A week longer and we would have had to wait until late June 2023 due to the wet road conditions in the Spring. It is amazing to have NEW windows!
It looks like there was no relaxing this summer. You’ve been very busy making your house a cozy home. I’m sure you are not regretting all your hard work this past summer improving your house, now that it’s getting cold out. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Lee’s in STL.
