We got 3’ (FEET!) of snow Monday night through Wednesday morning. Another 3” overnight last night. It’s still snowing today and there is another Winter Weather Advisory posted for our area tonight. Since it’s been so dry this year, we will take all the snow this winter will give us!

I got most areas cleaned out with the snowblower yesterday and some paths hand shoved today, but still need to shovel over to the woodpile (Friday’s job!).

The County sent the snowplow out this morning, so the road headed West is now open and the Mail should arrive on Friday. It was only closed for about 3 days. Note the moose tracks in the yard! They ate about half the wreath we made and hung by the gate.

Paths to the bird feeders are now shoveled and the feeders cleared of snow so the birds could get to the seed. I also shoveled out the “peanut stump” which was super popular today for the Steller's Jays, Clark's Nutcrackers and Black-billed Magpies. Even the Chickadees (Mountain and Black-capped) got in on the fun hauling peanuts around!
I spotted the Northern Shrike out along the road early this morning, but he did not raise a ruckus in the yard today.
A male/female pair of Cassin's Finches stopped by yesterday, but only the female is around today. I'm hoping the male is up the road at a neighbor's feeder eating today. Also, a pair of Common Redpolls arrived in our yard today, which is a new bird for us to identify. The beautiful, yellow/orange beak and red spot on their head was a delight to see with all the white snow!
